Robert is the Partner at our Exeter office, known for his strong blend of design creativity and technical expertise. Promoted to partner in 2024, succeeding Paul Morris, Robert’s leadership, energy and dedication have been key drivers of the practice’s continued success and expansion.
Raised in the South West, Robert studied Architecture at Kingston University, earning both a BA Hons and PG Diploma. After gaining valuable experience in London, he returned to the South West and joined Axiom Architects, completing his Part 3 qualification at UWE.
With extensive experience across Residential, Student Housing, Higher Education, Commercial, and Hospitality sectors, Robert has led numerous complex projects from initial feasibility through to completion. Notably, he successfully managed the planning stages for the redevelopment of Camberwell College of Art for the University of the Arts London.
More recently, Robert has achieved significant planning successes including securing approval for a Premier Inn hotel development in St Ives, Cornwall, a project that balances modern hospitality needs with sensitive coastal town conservation requirements. Additionally, he led the team in the design of a new hotel within Dorchester town centre that respect its historic character while supporting economic growth.
Since joining our practice in 2015, Robert has focused primarily on hotel and restaurant projects for core clients across the United Kingdom and South West. His ability to lead high-profile schemes within challenging conservation areas highlights his skillful approach to design and stakeholder engagement.
Robert’s professional ambition was recognised when he was longlisted for the 2020 RIBA Rising Star Award and shortlisted as a finalist in the South West Property Awards Rising Star category in 2021. Outside work, he is an avid cyclist who enjoys connecting with fellow construction professionals, notably completing a demanding 1500km ride from London to MIPIM with Club Peloton in 2018.
