Axiom Architects were appointed to develop proposals for a new 66 bedroom Premier Inn and separate social club on, redeveloping the site of the existing Comrades Club which occupied a dilapidated, detached Victorian building.
The new scheme took the form of a Four storey Regency style terrace, picking up on the prevalent buildings of the near by High Street and infilling what was previously a gap in the streetscape along the Parade. New shopfronts to the hotel and Comrades Club created an almost completely active frontage.
The development of a narrower room type and more compact accessible rooms, along with the use of a dormer storey and maximised the number of bedrooms within the smallest possible volume.
Strict acoustic criteria and the competing uses of a social club with live music and a hotel with sleeping occupants necessitated the development of a floating concrete box in box construction to the Comrades Club, minimising any sound transmission from club to hotel.
